Subject: HB 735 - repeal of the housing appeals board
Please support SB 735. SB306, a housing appeals board was rejected during the 2019 legislative session but then was slid into the state budget as part of the budget negotiations. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the 9:55am hearing on this bill Tuesday 1.28.2020.
I would argue a housing appeals board allows more state appointed bureaucrats to potentially overrule decisions made at the local municipal Elected Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Board level. I would also argue that this appeals board creates more state suffocation and takes power away from the locally elected municipal boards. I want to urge our state legislatures to please support SB735, the repeal of the Housing Appeals Board. It is not the right of Concord to decide what is best for individual communities throughout the state. I do recognize that NH has an affordable housing issue, but a government, state wide appointed board is NOT the way to solve or work towards solving this problem, in my view. This initiative toward affordable housing should be done by the community, between the locally elected boards and the private property owners. Currently, in Hampton, I can think of two examples where this is already in the works.
A state wide housing appeals board is wrong for NH, please support the repeal of this Board, please support / OTP SB735 without haste.
